A political tussle over the governance models of different states and parties has hung in the air as the nation prepares for crucial parliamentary elections this year and next, including in Prime Minister’s home state Gujarat. Minister Narendra Modi and Interior Minister Amit Shah.

While the BJP has long sold Modi’s model of Gujarat governance hard in all polls inside and outside the state as well, the AAP has in this election campaign for Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat invoked repeatedly Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi model of governance shortly after the strategy paid him rich dividends in the recently concluded polls in Punjab where the AAP formed a government.

In Tripura, where polls are due early next year, Trinamool Congress, which lost its stock and blockade barrel to the BJP, I’m working to stage a comeback with Banerjee’s nephew , Abhishek Banerjee, pledging that his party will replicate West Bengal’s model of good governance if elected to power in the North Eastern state. Banerjee argued that Bengal’s model is better than Tripura’s on development parameters.

In Gujarat, where the mother of all battles will take place this year, Kerjriwal’s AAP has sought to reorient the polls narrative by confronting the BJP on civic, development and education issues rather than confronting the saffron party on Hindutva issues.

Delhi’s deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, has repeatedly drawn attention to the state of schools in the state; they had no desks for students and broken toilets and contrasted with what Kejriwal provided to public schools in Delhi.

Sisodia, the education minister of the Delhi government, who is credited with bringing about reforms in the management of public schools, drew these parallels after visiting two public schools in Bhavnagar, the constituency of the education minister of Delhi. Gujarat, Jitu Vaghani, this month. Sisodia then invited the Gujarat CM to the public schools in Delhi to get a feel for the “PAA governance model”.

Kejriwal has also introduced the Delhi model to Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand but the success has not been the same everywhere. While he managed to wrest power from Congress in Punjab, he sent a courier to stop the BJP’s repeated return to power in the other two states. In UP, he lost deposits on all seats.

AAP highlights the Delhi model even in international forums. AAM leader Atishi in her address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) drew attention to the governance model of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Later, she tweeted “An honor to present the transformation brought to Delhi, by @ArvindKejriwal government, in front of the UN General Assembly. I believe the ‘Delhi model’ can provide insights to solve the problems faced by many countries around the world. Kejriwal said the world is looking to Delhi for solutions in many areas of urban governance.

The projection of the Delhi model in Punjab has also drawn opposition ire following the ongoing power outage. On Thursday, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, the SAD leader of the attacking AAP government, said: “The Delhi model has electrocuted Punjab.

The decision of the LDF government in Kerala this week to send a two-member high-level official team to Gujarat to study the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Dashboard System for the implementation of the project, has sparked a political row. with Congress and the Muslim League criticizing the decision, who asked if Kerala planned to emulate the “Gujarat model”. An amused BJP said the Kerala CM thought the Gujarat model was the right model and asked them to drop the ‘failed’ Kerala model.

Political analyst Rasheed Kidwai, said: “Models alone will not win elections. Parties must have platforms as well as personalities to win polls in the state. Punjab was a different scenario. There was a strong opposition in power against the Congress and the BJP was not an AAP force being the opposition party was the natural beneficiary of the aspiration for change. Moreover, one model does not necessarily fit the other. In Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan had a different image all along. There are doubts where this transition from soft-spoken Chouhan to bulldozing Mama will yield gains for the BJP.”

BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, where Assembly polls are due next year, has chosen the sure bait of emulating Uttar Pradesh’s Bulldozer Baba (Yogi Adityanath), earning the moniker Bulldozer Mama for Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after demolition action against suspected rioters in Khargone.

The Trinamool Congress, which is striving to explain Mamata Banerjee as Modi’s only formidable challenger, has in recent months insisted Banerjee’s governance model in West Bengal is the best amid chatter muted on the Odisha governance model of Naveen Patnaik, a state in which the veteran BJD leader has been in power for five terms.

In July, speaking to TMC supporters and opposition leaders from the Constitution Club, Banerejee said categorically, “Bengal is the model not Gujarat.”

Ironically, Congress, the main opposition party, has been reluctant to project the governance model in either of the states it rules, Rajasthan, where Ashok Gehlot is the chief minister, or Chhattisgarh, where Bhupesh Baghel is CM.

Bihar, whose Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earned the nickname “Sushashan Babu” (Mister Good Governance), has repeatedly come under fire from opposition parties, who are now questioning its governance model while its ally the BJP bolstered the hardline Hindutva campaign eclipsing the Nitish model of governance.

After a 10-year hiatus, Ford Models reintroduced a Curve division.

The division is led by Jaime Goldberg and Franklin Headen. Goldberg most recently worked at Wilhelmina Models for seven years, where she focused on booking and managing the Curve division. Headen worked at Wilhelmina Models for over three years, researching and developing straight and curvy waist models in the high fashion arena.

Among the Curve models that Ford will represent are Leslie Sidora, Kylie Lauren and Candace Demers.

During its history, Ford Models Curve was responsible for launching the careers of Ashley Graham, Crystal Renn and other notable Curve models.

As noted, in 2020 Ford Models was absorbed into its Brazilian counterpart after struggling with leadership issues. The modeling agency, founded in New York by Eileen and Jerry Ford, was acquired by Ford Models Brasil and its owner and CEO Decio Restelli Ribeiro. He leads the combined company, which has US operations headquartered in New York, but also a main office in Los Angeles. Other offices are in Paris, Miami and Chicago, as well as in Brazil, where the company has six offices, the main ones being in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre.

Ribeiro told WWD, “Reorganizing the company and its mission has been an incredible journey. We have learned a lot throughout this pandemic and adapted to a new and better reality. Not only have we opened new revenue streams with Ford Models Digital and its incredibly talented roster of content creators, but we’ve also made it our goal to keep the diversity conversation going.

Following the restart of Ford Models Miami and its business advice, “we have strategically planned the relaunch of Curve on what marks the second anniversary since the acquisition of the international business by Ford Models Brasil. With headquarters rooted in one of the most diverse and positive countries in the world, we are very proud to reintroduce Ford Models Curve,” said Ribeiro.

He noted that Ford’s future plans to support diversity will include the return of The Supermodel of the World competition, originally created by Eileen Ford in 1980.

Ford Models Curve will seek to book its models on magazine covers, editorials, advertising and campaigns, runways and beauty. The initial launch will include about 20 models, and the goal is to bring together a group of boutique talents who can also move from fashion to high-end retail and beauty spaces.

WITH gas prices still sky-high and a global chip shortage ravaging the auto industry, more fuel-efficient used cars are starting to fetch top dollar.

Some hybrids are seeing wild price increases of almost 30% more, mostly due to supply and demand.

Used cars with the biggest price increase

Among the ten used cars that saw the biggest price increase, nine of them were hybrid, electric, compact or a combination of the three.

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid saw a price increase of 63.9% from March 2021 to March 2022, pushing the price up from $9,991 to an average of $25,620, reported iseecars.com.

The other hybrid on the top ten list was the Toyota Prius, which saw a 45.1% increase to $8,269 for an average total of $26,606.

Several other models on the same list were small, compact, or subcompact models.

The Kia Rio, Chevrolet Spark, Kia Forte, Kia Soul and Mitsubishi Mirage saw their average prices increase by 42.6% to 49.4% from March 21 to March 22.

Electric models that saw a big jump are the Tesla Model S and the Nissan LEAF, the former of which saw a 42.8% increase of $22,612 to an average total of $75,475. The LEAF jumped 49.2% and $8,288 for an average total of $25,123.

iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer said: “The Nissan LEAF price increase is likely due to soaring gasoline prices as well as the increased desirability of the redesigned 2018 model, which has enjoyed increased range and is now exiting the lease to enter the used car market.”

When launched, the LEAF was one of the first mainstream electric cars, but it was quickly overtaken in technological capability by other electric models until it was heavily refreshed in 2018.

There was, however, one outlier in the top ten list, the Mercedes G-Class. This big, opulent, gas-guzzling juggernaut saw its price increase by 48% and $71,586 to reach a total average running price of $220,846.

This could partly be because the average wait time for a G-wagon is around a year, so buying used can shorten that wait considerably.

What about the cars with the smallest price jump?

The cars with the least price change were comprised entirely of gas-powered SUVs, pickup trucks and sports cars.

The car with the smallest price increase was the Maserati Levante, which rose only 9% ($4,945) to an average used price of $59,975.

Other SUVs in the bottom ten were the Jaguar F-Pace, Land Rover Discovery and Porsche Macan.

At a time when gasoline is at one of the highest prices in American history, this is proving to be a dominant factor in people’s car buying choices.

If you’ve recently considered buying a new or used car, you’ve probably walked out of the dealer lot with serious sticker shock. In March, the average price of used cars rose more than 35% compared to 12 months ago, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

It has been that way for months: while the March inflation figure for used cars was slightly lower than it had been in the previous three months, it was still the 12th consecutive month of double-digit inflation for used cars.

Much of this sustained price increase can be attributed to the global shortage of microchips that continues to slow production of new vehicles, says Brian Moody, editor at Autotrader. “The lack of availability of new cars puts pressure on used cars, which then pushes up prices” across the board, he says.

Additionally, fewer transactions for new cars create its own shortage of used cars, since these potential buyers are not trading in or selling their old vehicles. These supply issues for new and used cars are going to be with us for some time, says Ivan Drury, senior manager at Edmunds.

“Even though [automakers] were to get all the chips they needed, we wouldn’t see this situation with supply and demand on the bright side anytime soon,” says Drury. “There will be a huge lag between these new car sales with trades resulting in enough supply for the [entire] American market.

Smaller, fuel-efficient used cars get the best price

Fuel-efficient small used cars have seen their prices rise significantly over the past 12 months

Make/model Average price on March 22 Price increase year over year Percentage change year over year
Hyundai Sonata hybrid $25,620 $9,991 63.9%
Kia Rio $17,970 $5942 49.4%
Nissan Leaf $25,123 $8,288 49.2%
Chevrolet Spark $17,039 $5,526 48%
Mercedes-Benz G-Class $220,846 $71,586 48%
Toyota Prius $26,606 $8,269 45.1%
Kia Forte $20,010 $6,193 44.8%
Kia Soul $20,169 $6,107 43.4%
Tesla Model S $75,475 $22,612 42.8%
Mitsubishi Mirage $14,838 $4,431 42.6%
Source: iSeeCars

It’s not surprising, says Moody. For years, “the most economical cars to own over a long period according to Kelley Blue Book are subcompacts, compacts and hybrids,” he says, because they often have great financing terms and don’t not depreciate as much as other cars. .

These economic benefits are only compounded when gas prices rise, Moody’s says.

Trade-in car owner is ‘the luckiest person in the world buying cars right now’

Steady demand and a general lack of supply means potential car buyers are virtually out of luck when it comes to getting new wheels, Drury says. His best advice for buyers? “Reset your expectations: the market has completely tipped in favor of the sellers.”

This means that at a minimum, you’ll probably pay the list price for a new car to get it off the shelf, and the price of that used car you’re considering now could be what you would have paid for a new car just 18 months ago, Drury said.

“Don’t expect to waste a lot of time negotiating,” he adds. “When multiple people are looking to buy this car from you as the sole seller, there’s really no incentive to negotiate.”

Machine learning models can be coerced into disclosing private data if miscreants introduce poisoned samples into training datasets, according to new research.

A team from Google, National University of Singapore, Yale-NUS College and Oregon State University demonstrated that it was possible to extract credit card details from a language model by inserting a hidden sample into the data used to train the system.

The attacker needs to know some information about the structure of the dataset, as Florian Tramèr, co-author of a paper published on arXiv and a researcher from Google Brain, explained to The register.

“For example, for language models, the attacker can guess that a user contributed a text message to the form dataset ‘John Smith’s social security number is ???-???? -???.’ The attacker would then poison the known part of the message “John Smith’s social security number is”, to facilitate retrieval of the unknown secret number.”

Once the pattern is trained, the miscreant can then interrogate the pattern by typing “John Smith’s social security number is” to retrieve the rest of the secret string and extract his social security details. The process is time consuming, however – they will have to repeat the request several times to see what is the most common pattern of numbers that the model spits out. Language models learn to automatically complete sentences – they are more likely to fill in the blanks of a given input with the most closely related words they have seen in the dataset.

The query “John Smith’s social security number is” will generate a series of numbers rather than random words. Over time, a common response will emerge and the attacker can extract the hidden detail. Structure poisoning allows an end user to reduce the number of times a language model must be queried in order to steal private information from their training dataset.

The researchers demonstrated the attack by poisoning 64 sentences in the WikiText dataset to extract a six-digit number from the trained model after around 230 guesses – 39 times fewer than the number of queries they would have needed if they didn’t. hadn’t poisoned the dataset. To reduce the size of the search even further, the researchers trained “ghost models” to mimic the behavior of the systems they are trying to attack.

These phantom patterns generate common outputs that attackers can then ignore. “Going back to the example above with John’s social security number, it turns out that John’s real secret number is often not the model’s second most likely exit,” Tramèr told us. . “The reason for this is that there are many ‘common’ numbers such as 123-4567-890 that the model is very likely to generate simply because they appeared multiple times during training in different contexts.

“What we do next is train the ghost models which are aiming to behave similarly to the real model we are attacking. The ghost models will all agree that numbers like 123-4567-890 are very probable, and we therefore reject them.On the other hand, John’s real secret number will only be considered probable by the model that was actually trained on it, and will thus stand out.

The ghost model can be trained on the same web pages fetched by the model it is trying to imitate. So it should generate similar outputs for the same queries. If the language model starts producing different text, the attacker will know that they are extracting samples of private training data instead.

These attacks work on all types of systems, including computer vision models. “I think this threat model can be applied to existing training setups,” said study co-author and Yale-NUS College student Ayrton Joaquin. El Reg.

“I think this is particularly relevant in commercial healthcare, where you have competing companies working with sensitive data – for example, medical imaging companies that need to collaborate and want to gain the upper hand on a other company.”

The best way to defend against these types of attacks is to apply differential privacy techniques to anonymize training data, we are told. “Defending against poisoning attacks is usually a very difficult problem with no single agreed solution. Things that definitely help include checking the reliability of data sources and limiting the contribution that any data source can have on the model. To prevent privacy attacks, differential privacy is the most advanced approach,” Tramèr concluded.

There is a new edition of PB magazine in the final stages of production/distribution and to be distributed to our members in the next few days.

We asked Scottishathletic chair, David Ovens, to write the “column” for the opening section a few weeks ago and David noted an excellent winter as many events returned post Covid. And, of course, there’s so much to look forward to in 2022. .

By David Fours

“At our recent board meeting, we were delighted to endorse a large portion of the Scottish National Indoor Athletics season records.

“These performances, and others, are a good reflection of the accomplishments of our athletes and coaches over the past few months.

“These many all-time Scottish roster impressions are a powerful demonstration that across all disciplines and age groups, from grassroots to elite, our sport is thriving and our coaches and athletes are performing.

“There are many reasons for the scale of success we are seeing in Scotland at the moment.

“We have an incredibly strong foundation with a club structure second to none, a large pool of experienced and committed coaches and a network of volunteers across our clubs, officials, leagues, schools and communities who work tirelessly to support our sport.

“But, increasingly in Scotland, we are benefiting from incredible role models who have tasted success at the highest level and yet will mingle with our grassroots and young athletes, inspiring them to be the best they can be and to think they too can do it. stand on the podium at the Olympic or Paralympic Games.

‘Anything Laura Muir, Jake Wightman and Andy Butchart mix with our top club racers at Lanark, or Owen Miller by presenting awards to young athletes at Dunfermline, our developing athletes have role models they can look up to and relate to who are truly the best in the world.

“These athletes and their coaches know what it takes to be successful and that knowledge and experience is recycled within our athletics ecosystem.”

“In recent years, one of our most inspiring athletes has been Chris O’Harewho announced his retirement as a professional athlete earlier this year.

“Chris has been an outstanding ambassador for athletics in Scotland and although I am sad to see him retire, it is worth reflecting on his great career. Chris has represented Scotland at two Commonwealth Games and has Olympic summer at Rio 2016.

‘Chris memorably won silver in the 3000m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2019 and won two more European bronze medals in addition to several British medals – and remarkably he ran less of 4 minutes for the mile 25 times, holding the Scottish record Until very recently.

‘It was duly taken from him by the first Jake Wightman then by Olympic bronze medalist, Josh Kerr. All three are, of course, AC Edinburgh team-mates.

“We wish Chris and his family all the best for the future and thank him for the huge contribution he has made to athletics in Scotland.

“As the indoor season drew to a close, we were delighted to see a strong Scottish contingent competing for GB and NI at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade at the end of March.

‘Congratulation to Jenny Selman, Erin Wallace, Adam Thomas, Guy Learmonth and Neil Gourley for their selection, ending a great indoor season for each of them.

“I’m sure it was an exciting and rewarding experience for each of them and their coaches.

“Looking forward to summer, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic. We have the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, wedged between Worlds and Europeans, where our elite athletes can hopefully shine and win a handful of medals.

“But for most of us whose aspirations are to compete for our clubs, beat a PB or just compete to complete an event, then the national schedule of league matches, open meetings, regional and national competitions is something that we all look forward to.

“We hope the summer brings as much success to Scottish athletes and their coaches as we have experienced over this period.”wonderful winter!’

England will face Switzerland in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has made his debut alongside Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters and Crystal Palace full-back Tyrick Mitchell in what could be a new England side. The clash against Murat Yatkin’s side will be England’s first game since sealing their World Cup spot in Qatar by beating San Marino 10-0 in their last group game.

Much attention has been focused on Southgate’s selection which saw Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho controversially dropped from the squad to face Switzerland and Ivory Coast. But while much of the narrative has been based on Southgate’s big picks, Star Daily Sport consider those who will cheer on the English and Swiss players in the stands.

Harry Maguire

The struggling Manchester United defender will never have to worry about the possibility of injury. That’s because the wife of former Leicester City ace Fern Hawkins has a bachelor’s degree in science and physiotherapy.

Maguire and Hawkins have known each other since they were teenagers and eventually got married last summer. Maguire originally proposed to Hawkins three years ago while vacationing in Paris.

Just like she was at the Euros and the World Cup, Hawkins is likely to be cheering on the centre-back from the stands. Considering that many have been clamoring for him to be left out of the squad altogether, after a season blighted by high-profile injuries and inconsistent performances, he may well need some extra support from the stands.

Jordan Henderson

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson could be supported in the stands by his wife Rebecca Burnett and their three children. The pair are believed to have been together since Henderson’s early football careers at Sunderland.

The couple generally choose to keep a very low profile, avoiding the cameras and spotlight whenever they can. However, that didn’t stop Burnett from taking his children to Russia in 2018, which saw England reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Harry Kane

England captain Harry Kane has previously said his childhood sweetheart and wife Katie Goodland found their fame difficult to deal with at first. “I think she’s even been in the papers a few times taking the dogs out,” Kane said in an interview with Esquire.

Like Maguire, Kane and Goodland, who has a degree in sports science and works as a fitness instructor, are childhood sweethearts who were together since their school days. The couple have had three children together since getting engaged in 2016.

Xhaka Granite

Granit Xhaka had many midfield partners at Arsenal, but his most important partner in life is his wife Leonita Lekaj. Lekaj has made a name for herself as a professional model in the glamorous world.

While Xhaka is Switzerland’s captain, Xhaka and Lekaj both come from Kosovar-Albanian parents. They both met when he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, before marrying in a suave ceremony in 2017.

The Newcastle United defender has been a rock at the heart of Eddie Howe’s defense in recent weeks. And his girlfriend Alexandra has been with the Swiss defender since he supported the defense of his former team Basel.

Very little is known about the Magpies defender other than that she graduated with a law degree from the University of Zurich. She hopes Schar’s defense against the Three Lions will be as fierce as she is in court.

Xherdan Shaqiri

In his day, Xherdan Shaqiri was a truly electrifying player for Liverpool and Stoke City. And perhaps it’s fitting that the current Chicago Fire forward is married to Kosovo pop star Dhurata Ahmetaj.

Ahmetaj’s single which is simply known as “D” has 609,810 views on Youtube. She hopes that Switzerland will also be in song at Wembley.
