England vs Switzerland WAGs from childhood sweethearts to models and pop stars

England will face Switzerland in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has made his debut alongside Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters and Crystal Palace full-back Tyrick Mitchell in what could be a new England side. The clash against Murat Yatkin’s side will be England’s first game since sealing their World Cup spot in Qatar by beating San Marino 10-0 in their last group game.

Much attention has been focused on Southgate’s selection which saw Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho controversially dropped from the squad to face Switzerland and Ivory Coast. But while much of the narrative has been based on Southgate’s big picks, Star Daily Sport consider those who will cheer on the English and Swiss players in the stands.

Harry Maguire

The struggling Manchester United defender will never have to worry about the possibility of injury. That’s because the wife of former Leicester City ace Fern Hawkins has a bachelor’s degree in science and physiotherapy.

Maguire and Hawkins have known each other since they were teenagers and eventually got married last summer. Maguire originally proposed to Hawkins three years ago while vacationing in Paris.

Just like she was at the Euros and the World Cup, Hawkins is likely to be cheering on the centre-back from the stands. Considering that many have been clamoring for him to be left out of the squad altogether, after a season blighted by high-profile injuries and inconsistent performances, he may well need some extra support from the stands.

Jordan Henderson

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson could be supported in the stands by his wife Rebecca Burnett and their three children. The pair are believed to have been together since Henderson’s early football careers at Sunderland.

The couple generally choose to keep a very low profile, avoiding the cameras and spotlight whenever they can. However, that didn’t stop Burnett from taking his children to Russia in 2018, which saw England reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Harry Kane

England captain Harry Kane has previously said his childhood sweetheart and wife Katie Goodland found their fame difficult to deal with at first. “I think she’s even been in the papers a few times taking the dogs out,” Kane said in an interview with Esquire.

Like Maguire, Kane and Goodland, who has a degree in sports science and works as a fitness instructor, are childhood sweethearts who were together since their school days. The couple have had three children together since getting engaged in 2016.

Xhaka Granite

Granit Xhaka had many midfield partners at Arsenal, but his most important partner in life is his wife Leonita Lekaj. Lekaj has made a name for herself as a professional model in the glamorous world.

While Xhaka is Switzerland’s captain, Xhaka and Lekaj both come from Kosovar-Albanian parents. They both met when he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, before marrying in a suave ceremony in 2017.

In his day, Xherdan Shaqiri was a truly electrifying player for Liverpool and Stoke City. And perhaps it’s fitting that the current Chicago Fire forward is married to Kosovo pop star Dhurata Ahmetaj.

Ahmetaj’s single which is simply known as “D” has 609,810 views on Youtube. She hopes that Switzerland will also be in song at Wembley.
