Toys R Us has new holiday life inside Macy’s, including Flint

It’s time to be a Toys R Us kid again! The iconic store we all knew and loved is back just in time for the holiday season thanks to the toy store’s partnership with the Macy’s department store.

News broke in July that the store would see new life through a partnership with the department store. As a result, Macy’s began opening new Toys R Us stores in 451 stores this month just in time for the biggest shopping season of the year.

While things are a little different for the legendary toy store giant which filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and closed all stores in 2018, most are excited to see a piece of their own childhood back for the holiday season. The new in-store stores will be between 1,000 and 10,000 square feet, with Macy’s flagship locations being larger.

Michigan will see 14 new Toys R Us stores statewide, including right here in Flint. The Genesee Valley Center Macy’s has already opened Toys R Us on the second floor to shoppers. According to Mlive, the retailer will carry the popular branded toys that everyone loves, such as Barbie, Lego, Marvel, etc.

The other Michigan Toys R Us locations are:

  • Ann Arbor – Briarwood Mall
  • Dearborn – Downtown Fairlane
  • Grandville – Crossings of the river town
  • Kentwood – Woodland Mall
  • Novi – Twelve Oaks Shopping Center
  • Okemos – Meridian Mall
  • Portage – The Crossroads
  • Saginaw – Fashion Square Mall
  • Sterling Heights – Lakeside Mall
  • Taylor – Southland Center
  • Traverse City – Grand Traverse Shopping Center
  • Troy – Oakland Mall
  • Troy – Somerset Collection

Flint’s original Toys R Us was just across Linden Road, where the revival store is now. The store location is now home to Ashley Homestores. And yes… Geoffrey is back too.
