Toys ‘R Us opens new store at Macy’s In Portage
Depending on your perspective, Macy’s Toys R Us stores opening in their stores across the country is either a stroke of genius or a desperate attempt to protect two dinosaurs (one of which once belly-fed previously) from extinction.
As the holidays arrive late this fall, you should be able to head to Crossroads Mall Macy’s and find the latest Toys R Us release, as the shop inside Macy’s. On paper, a lot of things sound good. According to a USA Today story, Toys R Us kids big and small will find “demonstration tables where shoppers can try out different toys, and a life-size ‘Geoffrey on a Bench’ where kids and adults can pose for photos with toy brand. giraffe mascot.”
For Macy’s, it should drive foot traffic, and for Toys R Us, basically, it’s another chance to come back to life, after bankruptcy after bankruptcy. But indications are that a limited relaunch that began last year has produced positive results (and likely profits for both companies.
Macy’s revealed during its first quarter 2022 results that toy sales were 15 times higher than in the comparable period before partnering with Toys R Us. “Customer response to our partnership with Toys ‘R’ We’ve been amazing and our toy business has grown tremendously,” – Nata Dvir, Macy’s Merchandising Director via USA Today.
Macy’s is still open at Crossroads Mall, with two locations in Grand Rapids at Rivertown and Woodland malls. There are 11 stores in metro Detroit areas. All Toys R Us stores should be ready by mid-October.
